How are your skirting timbers fixed to the wall? are they nailed and glued? I'm getting flooring done after handover and I'd really like to remove the skirts to have the flooring laid underneath them but Im worried it might damage the wall if they are glued :/ My Build thread --- https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=67313 Final Builders Interview - 18th Nov 13 Site Works - 11th Dec 13 Slab - 16th Dec 13 Frame - 7th Jan 14 Re: _lucinda's house 546Jan 30, 2014 2:04 pm Metroid, yes, I took lots of pictures but they all look pretty much the same. misslibe, I don't know. Have to admit, one thing I don't like much is it appears a strip of dowel has been placed where the floorboards meet the skirting boards. It doesn't look nice at all because it's not quite the colour of the floor and definitely doesn't match the skirting boards. I wonder if they'll be back to paint it, but the painter has packed up and taken all his gear away. It would, I think, have been much nicer to have laid the floor then put the skirting boards on, but I had no idea of the process or what the finished look would be, and it hadn't occurred to me to ask. I have read in other forums that some builders will afix the skirtings in a temporary way so that they can be easily removed for the purpose of laying floor coverings later, so ask your builder if they are willing to do that. They probably will leave the beading, might have to paint it at a later date. I know you said you're not 100% on the trim but I actually prefer it to just running the floor under the arcs. The main reason being its easier to clean and less opportunities to bumb the arc with brooms etc... Looking really really good though! Thanks Lucinda, yea I'm not sure what to do. I'm thinking Ill probably need to call my site supervisor and discuss my options. Maybe they can just tack them on. FairmontSAcustom Flooring and garage door look great lucinda! They probably will leave the beading, might have to paint it at a later date. Would you paint it if you had to have it like this, or would you leave it as a contrast? Metroid Thanks for the extra photos looks really good. The main reason being its easier to clean and less opportunities to bumb the arc with brooms etc... Looking really really good though! Okay, good points, thanks Metroid. I'm starting to see a positive. Would you paint it, Metroid, or leave as is? Quote: Thanks Lucinda, yea I'm not sure what to do. Thanks for your help Fingers crossed your builder will be able to provide what you want. LeanneR I thought would make more sense to do floorboards then do the white skirting. not sure why they would then go add the dowel thinking that's alright I'm kicking myself that I didn't think ahead as to how the boards and skirting would join--must admit though, I've not ever seen the beading done like this before. Still, I suppose once we've moved in guests aren't going to zoom in on the beading and say how revolting it looks, regardless of how awful it might be. Will they? Re: _lucinda's house 556Jan 31, 2014 1:27 pm Here is what our display looks like with it. Ours is a darker floor so I assume that we both have the same quad going down but mine seems to match more because of the base colour... I actually quite like it but it is a personal taste thing. It also means we dont have to repaint our arcs after pulling them off and putting them back on if we did want it under the arc. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: _lucinda's house 557Feb 01, 2014 11:53 am Thanks Metroid. I agree that looks nice, and probably because the beading matches the colour of the flooring better. I think the worst thing that I don't like however is that it looks weird to me that it stops at the architraves. I can see why it stops, it just looks unfinished. I think that if I'd known I might have had my skirting boards stained to match the floor rather than painted to match the wall. I'll have to get used to it though because I didn't know any better so didn't ask and didn't investigate alternatives and now it is too late--simply can't afford anything else. Now, another big question. Does anyone know what happens if laminated floorboards are pulled up and then replaced? Do they get damaged? Will there be scuff marks where the boards have been prised apart and along the edges. Why do I ask? Because the underlay used was not the one we had specified in our contract. Our builder and site supervisor have been superbly brilliant in response to the issue and to get things moving, but I'm concerned that the boards might be damaged. I also unfairly wondered if the tradies would be frustrated at having to do the job again and they might not be as careful as they were the first time around. What is it with this house and floor issues--two major things along the way; what will be the third. Re: _lucinda's house 558Feb 01, 2014 2:50 pm Oh no lucinda. Great that they will fix but not that they will have to do the job again! We had laminate floor pulled up to replace a damaged board. From memory it lifted easily with little to no damage. In answer to your question I would get all my furniture in and live in the House and then I would decide. That at least is what I am doing with things I am not sure I like in our house Re: _lucinda's house 559Feb 01, 2014 3:45 pm Thanks so much for the help, FairmontSAcustom.
