Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 286Aug 20, 2013 10:43 pm Hi all We received our second set of plans yesterday. There is still one problem but that was Masterton's error, not ours so we have recourse ther. As I won't get another chance to amend without being charged I wanted to check a few finer details....we have 2600mm ceilings. All the doors are 2040 high (stacker door 2100mm). A friend advised they should be 2340mm high? Thoughts anyone? Am I worrying for no reason? Will 2040mm look ok? I am so keen to get this ball rolling its not funny, BUT not at the expense of a stuff up. Everything else checks out, I think.... Re: Masterton Homes - The next thread 4.0 288Aug 21, 2013 11:09 am HI can anyone give me any advice on what they did for internet and data in their house?? I am building Villina 32. I personally believe ethernet cables are old technology. I was hoping to just have wireless throughout the house with a repeater upstairs if the signal isnt strong enough. We have a study and home theatre at the front of the house. I was going to have one phone connection there. Might possibly run an ethernet cable next door into the home theatre if I want to stream some movies from my computer. Possibly another ethernet cable upstairs into the lounge room to then have the wireless repeater. Any thoughts?? Possibly another ethernet cable upstairs into the lounge room to then have the wireless repeater. Any thoughts?? I recommend CAT6 to each TV point and bedroom (optional). Sometimes wireless will not cut it. Ethernet is not old tech and is the more reliable connection. I have CAT6 to each TV point (plus my office), to allow internet access to not just the TV, but the XBox, PS3 etc for gaming. Then WiFi to rest of house with 1 repeater upstairs to cover the bedrooms, as I did not install CAT6 there. WiFi is good enough for interner browsing (for homework), youtube etc. Remember, the more devices you have on WiFi, that includes your iPhone & iPads etc, the less bandwith for data, not to mention next door neighbours' signal interference (if not setup correctly). Hope this helps. P.S. Don't forget to run FOXTEL cable to each TV point too. This will save you so much headache later if you ever decide to add it. It took the FOXTEL tech less than 1 hour to connect a brand new connection and run the system, because we had the wires all done prior. Cost, $0 from FOXTEL. All M stuff ups, check and double check, things like window sizes, plumbing (fridge water point), down pipe positions, gas outlet, door opening directions! Check insulation is where it should be. Hi guys, I've got 2600 with the 2340 doors plus I raised all the niche and kitchen cupboard hight as well, it can be done! Thanks Ben+Lisa Do you mind if I ask how much you estimate it will cost to increase door heights throughout our Symphony? We also noticed on the display home today the front entry door goes all the way to the ceiling. Our plans show our door to be 1200x2040mm, so what material is above the front door I wonder. The display home has 2700mm ceilings we will have 2600mm. You make a good point...if I do this do I need to raise cupboards and niches to match? I guess for uniformity you do. I am amazed you had 12 sets of plans drawn. We were told that we only get one chance to amend and then they will charge $1000 per change? Thanks also Vatche for mentioning the windows. I see they have put a sliding window to our ensuite instead of a double hung, even though we specified it to be like the powder room. I don't see why a floor to ceiling window only 610mm wide would be sliding, especially all the way to the base. With regards to tender price, I have changed my mind about having the canopy rangehood and now want a concealed range hood. I also want a 900mm oven and cooktop. Is now the time to mention this? Are these tender variations? We were quoted for a glass splash back to go all the way to the bulkhead, but now I have decided to go concealed we will need less glass , therefore they have probably over quoted. Once we get the plans perfect do we then get a new tender price? And is the step after that signing contracts and paying 5% deposit? When does the kitchen and electrical come into play? I am sure this will increase the price again. Sorry for so many questions, just trying to understand the procedure. They should provide you with a step by step guide to the process. I know EB do. We also paid $500 for the high kitchen cabinet. But the entry door is 2340mm high as standard because of the raised ceiling. The high door definitely looks better than the standard due to the high ceiling. allyman Hi all We received our second set of plans yesterday. They should provide you with a step by step guide to the process. I know EB do. Regards Ally You should be able to amend plans as many times as you need to make sure your plans match what you are after, but not like changing your mind over and over again. M will not like that. No one will. So before you make your final mind up, you list all the options you like to be added/deleted from the plans, ie. door heights etc. And submit to M your final list. Once you pay them 5% deposit, only then will cost you $1000 per change, as the final plans would have been submitted and they need to be re-submitted to council or CDC. I know it feels that there is no step-by-step guide, that is how I felt and it is frustrating, but at the same, every project is different and the steps can be different. Even during construction, some steps eg. bricks/roof are done at different times from one house to the next. As with variations in the tender, it can get confusing as they do not simply remove old item and add new one, but credit that old item and then add a new one, which makes it hard for us to keep track of the changes. For that, I created an Excel spreadsheet, so it did the $$ calculations and I made sure it matched M's tender amount. Hope this helps. As for the plans, it is amazing, at one point i was thinking it was a stalling technique, every time i had something fixed, something else that I didn't ask for was adjusted, for instance my front windows, one side was 3 panel and the other was 4 panels wtf, and when they fixed that, the portico height was dropped, then when that was fixed they put a down pipe next to my front door, then a sliding window was deleted, this went on and on, every time something was touched something else changed, but each time I had to actually study the plans find each change and then put forward my case, nobody proof reads your plans in the end I was told that the computer is doing it, so if you change anything check your plans again, m will fix any problems for free and will apologies. most of these issues was after we had signed and paid the 5% but M will charge $1000 if you want higher doors after you have signed for 2100. this fee also for the electrical and colors after signing.
