Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 13, 2012 10:43 am Hi everyone! My husband and I are building our first home with Rawdon Hill (the Tamar) at the Meridian estate in Dandenong (right near eastlink). We didn't do a house and land package. After rummaging though multiple house-plans and visiting countless display homes, we found the house we wanted to build with Rawdon Hill. After we found the house we went on a search for land. Originally we were looking at the Sommerfield Estate in Keysborough, but the prices were way out of our price range. So we went with Meridian because its literally down the road from Sommerfield (on the other side of the bypass) and was significantly cheaper simply because the postcode was the Dandenong postcode rather than a Keysborough one. Where are we at right now? Our land settled last month, and we are currently making some final adjustments to the plans before locking in our contract with Rawdon Hill. So far the experience with Rawdon Hill has been great. With the Estate however, not as great because they have been somewhat limiting. For example, when submitting your designs for your front yard, Meridian does not allow you to have more than 40% front lawn. While this works for us, it means there'll be a lot less greenary around the neighbourhood. Just little things like that but in the scheme of things are no big deal. Provided we can get the contracts signed and permits by the end of the month, we're confident theres still a possibility we could be in by Christmas which is really exciting!! If anyone else is building with Rawdon Hill, or have purchased in Meridian, I'd love to hear your experiences so we can have some insight into what to expect. Re: Building with Rawdon Hill in the Meridian Estate - Dande 3Dec 24, 2012 8:00 am Hi, We are building in Meridian with a different builder. Experience so far 1) We bought our land in Jan 12 2) Contract signed in May 12 3) Building Permit done Oct 12 4) Construction started on Oct 12 5) Lock up completed Dec 12 As you see most of our time was between contract to permits. This was because our builder had to be thorough with developer requirements set out by Vicurban or Places Victoria. At the end it wasn't rocket science but I felt the builder just had an excuse to take their own time. Re: Building with Rawdon Hill in the Meridian Estate - Dande 4Jun 05, 2013 9:33 am Was also interested in reviews of Rawdon Hill. Went past there display home in officer last weekend and their prices seemed good. Display home was nice but everything seemed to be an upgrade. Re: Building with Rawdon Hill in the Meridian Estate - Dande 5Jun 05, 2013 9:58 am I can highly recommend Rawdon Hill Constructions.....I work for them for over 10 years as a draftsperson. Their homes have stood the test of time. I recently visited one near me that was for sale and it is still in excellent condition thanks to great construction and the love and care of the owner. Real Estate agents even use their name in advertising, such is their reputation. Not sure if Geoff Hardie (the owner) is still working, but he was an incredible boss and mentor for me in my early working career.....I learnt more in my first month working for Rawdon Hill, then I did in 6 years of training and 3 years with a drafting service. If Geoff's still about, please say hello for me (Glenn) and I wish you all the best for your new home. Re: Building with Rawdon Hill in the Meridian Estate - Dande 6Jul 20, 2013 11:35 am Thanks G-Thorpe! To date our experience with Rawdon Hill has been amazing. Meridian have been shocking to deal with, but the Rawdon Hill team have been so patient and accomodating. Our house is now nearly done and the workmanship so far has been outstanding. Hopefully it continues. They just applied for the occupancy certificate on Thursday so hopefully we'll be in there soon! Re: Building with Rawdon Hill in the Meridian Estate - Dande 7Jul 24, 2013 7:09 pm Hi Miss G, We are about to sign with Rawdon Hill and just doing our research on them. In a previous post you said you may be in the house by Christmas 2012 but you are only just getting your Occupancy certificate now. I hope you don't mind me asking, what was the hold up? Re: Building with Rawdon Hill in the Meridian Estate - Dande 8Jul 29, 2013 3:27 pm Hi impish73. The holdup wasnt Rawdon Hill. It was our developers. They took so long to approve plans that by the time it came around we had to re-do valuations etc. We ended up changing to the Bedarra house and once permits were granted, they started work immediately. We are now 3 months into it and about 3 weeks away from moving in. Our building experience (in terms of quality and building to our modified plans) has been exceptional. We are discussing plans with Meridian homes and it is shaping up nicely. Anyone has any experience to share? Have gone through forums but no recent feedback or experience found. 0 5044 Howdy all.
