It needs to be at the lowest point of the drain system so not necessarily near a toilet or bathroom. It regulates pressure and stops airlocks in the drains. It was asphalt originally but felt it was a bit too dark. We didn't know we could upgrade to the gloss when we picked colours so it's the normal one. Can't remember the exact name.
