Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Aug 01, 2020 5:59 pm Hi all I finished building a deck off the rear of my house recently, and I would now like to build a roof over it. What I'm trying to work out though, is how far I can span the roof without any supports. Is anyone able to point me in the correct direction where I can find this info? What I'm trying to do is this: My deck comes out 4500mm from the house, and runs 9220mm along the back of the house. So I need the roof to span the 4500mm plus what I add to it to get the correct fall. I haven't looked into exactly what roofing I'll use, but at this stage I'm thinking it will be something clear. So is what I want to do even possible? Appreciate any help or suggestions! Thanks in advance!! Type of timber and spacing are just two of the things that are to be considered. I'm planning on purchasing the timber from Bunnings so I'll find out about the timber and then look for the framing tables. The other option is to make the roof frame out of steel, which is what I did when I built the deck. I'm assuming from your comment that framing tables are also available in this instance? I'll keep doing some searching myself but if you or anyone else has info to share, that info will be much appreciated!!
