Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Jul 29, 2020 10:36 pm Hey guys.. I have a few external walls in my house that the ends kick out. it's only on the edges as well the skirting just kicks out and just above skirting kicks out.. up high the walls fine. The builder's way of rectifying was to pull skirting forward to straighten, cut a hole in the wall and pack behind. My understanding is the angle was never put on flat so then the edge of the wall sits out more kicking it out. but obviously for them to fix this would be way more work, do you think how they fixed it is acceptable? it does look better but not 100% After fix Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Before fix Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Skirtings/walls not straight 2Jul 30, 2020 7:55 am I had this situation on a couple of walls in my house (I usually have an eye for these things). The builder straightened the skirting board and filled behind, and now that it has been painted I just can't tell that it is not straight, so I accepted it and used it as a negotiating point to get some other stuff fixed . I guess it is up to you as whether you accept it, if it going to annoy you every time you look at it future you should insist on it Re: Skirtings/walls not straight 3Jul 30, 2020 1:18 pm brokenstick I had this situation on a couple of walls in my house (I usually have an eye for these things). Re: Skirtings/walls not straight 6Jul 30, 2020 8:41 pm Thanks guys. What would the correct way be to fix this? Up high on the wall around 1.5m its fine, as I get lower with a level that when it kicks out. Is it as simple as removing skirting and sanding back? or is it the corner angle not on flat? Thanks Re: Skirtings/walls not straight 7Jul 30, 2020 8:56 pm Hi Adrian You can't sand the corners as they have the metal corner beads that you can see in Brett's drawing. Just about all plaster board corners will be slightly out of square just because they have to add the corner bead to an already square corner. The tighter the plasterer fit's the bead and the further back he flushes the corner is what will make the difference. A switched on fixing carpenter can also employ some tricks that help to minimise the way the skirting boards come together. Can be easily seen when the flooring is installed. You can see the laminate becomes smaller as it runs toward the corner. My question is, how much of a defect is this and is it worth pushing my builder to fix it? It may be that the flooring is out (in relation to the wall) and not the wall itself Accessible Carpentry & Cabinets accessiblecarpentry@gmail.com accessiblecarpentry.com.au https://www.facebook.com/pages/Accessible-Carpentry-Cabinets/583314911709039 Re: Skirtings/walls not straight 10Aug 10, 2020 6:43 pm Apologies, not the best quality photo. Doesn't really taper all that much along the length of the wall. Pretty consistent along the hallway wall except this area. I've attached anothe pic from another angle. Its the far wall at the end of the hallway Cheers Re: Skirtings/walls not straight 11Aug 10, 2020 6:44 pm nik_nt11 Apologies, not the best quality photo. I already have the doors and architraves installed as pictured. My question is which size n type of skirting would go with the architraves?
