Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Apr 08, 2020 2:48 pm Hi, Yesterday I had some deck posts replaced due to them rotting at the bottom. The original stirrups were too low and enabled the posts to rot. The posts are around 6m high and attached to a 2nd story deck and also hold up an aluminum roof above the deck. I have a few questions about some things that have worried me. Ive attached pictures of the work that has been done. 1- they didn't take out the old stirrup ( the green ones you can see), but instead it seems they have put a new stirrups ontop of the old ones (which were installed in the 70s and look a little rusty). 2 - one post has no clearance between the stirrup and the other has a very large clearance (gap under the post). Its about the width of my thumb, is such a large gap ok? If it is, then is no gap ok on the other one? 3 - the posts are secured by 4 coach screws, rather than 2 bolts the whole way through, is this a problem considering that one of the posts isnt sitting on the base of the stirrup at all and is only held up by these 4 screws? How is the certificate of compliance obtained? It this standard for such a small job? Also is it a problem to "piggy back" on another stirrup? Contact your Council Building department Building surveyors can certify compliance against the NCC If it's not in The NCC then an Engineer can certify alternate Solutions Name It this standard for such a small job? Correct connections are Vital in structures... Steel connection failures are in the news daily refer to AS4100 Steel structures Name Also is it a problem to "piggy back" on another stirrup? I suggest you use /provide proper certified details to the carpenter/builder Rather than rely on what he offers up or tells you. That way you will avoid non compliance and pay disputes for that work provided. OT if you are in WA you can lodge a complaint with the Building Commission against the Builder/carpenter Cheers Chris Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: Do these deck posts look like they meet standards? 5Jun 20, 2022 6:42 am As far as I know, before accepting a dangerous cargo on a ship, the command staff must be instructed in detail by the port administration and the shipper about the properties of the cargo, safety rules, industrial sanitation, and fire safety rules. No the fireplace doesn’t work. It’s been enclosed. I’m not sure what was removed, as it was done quite some time ago - well before what I can see with photos online… 2 11568 Seconded; we just used these last weekend to build a small deck. They worked perfectly as we have bluestone in the area where we wanted to build so digging down was not… 8 9053 Building Standards; Getting It Right! Don't think they are designed for double brick. WA has a particular way of building and unfortunately that's the way a large amount of sills are finished. 3 6986 |
