Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Mar 01, 2020 9:58 am We are tiling our alfresco area so that the tiles will be flush with the door track and the inside finished floor level. I’m told by some tilers that the alfresco slab has been poured too high - it was poured 20mm below the finished floor level - allowing 10mm tile, 5mm glue and a 5mm extra room to play Incase we need it. I’m told it’s currently too high and there’s not enough room to use screed to build it up as screed has to be a minimum thickness of 15mm. I spoke to the VBA in Victoria and they said there is no minimum in the guide lines - but said to check the manufactures recommendations. I don’t know what screed they will be using. One tiler said he will use extra glue to build the tiles to the right height. Another said he would use self leveled to build it up, where as the other tilers knocked this idea back. A third tiler said he will use screed and it can be thinner than 15mm. But the other tilers said it will crack if it’s less than 15mm. So I’m confused what to do and who to believe. Before you rip it up, if you can in the grout lines, drill some holes and pour/inject techgrip by sika.
