Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Jul 26, 2018 12:12 am Hey guys! I've moved into my new home about 8 months ago and have recently gotten the facade rendered along with the patio in the back. I noticed the renderer actually rendered over the termiglass termite barrier, he said this wasn't an issue. However I've seen lots of houses where there's a visible line in the render which I'm assuming is the termite barrier. Is it a huge issue if the termite barrier has been rendered over? I note that the weep holes have been left exposed. What is the regulation around the termite barrier specifically? And how much would having render over it affect the safety of my house? This is a new property that I had built, the warranty for the termiglass is about to expire and I don't intend to extend it, if that's of any help in answering the question. Re: Render and Termite Barrier 3Jul 26, 2018 7:14 am The termite installers haven't been helpful for other things which is why I haven't contacted them yet nor intend on extending my warranty with them. I suspect they'd just say the standard don't cover the barrier? However I want to know if it's a huge issue if it is covered? I can't find anything online about this, except for people saying the weepholes must absolutely not be covered but no mention is made of the termite barrier. I'm worried if I get the renderer to cut into the render to expose the termite barrier will result in them causing more damage to the job than what the barrier is actually worth. The critical line will be junction of your slab with brickwork and the band between termiglass and ground. Don't forget that regardless of your protection you could still have a termite hit(although less likely). That is why annual professional inspections are recommended for early detection to avoid severe damage.
