Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Sep 06, 2008 10:33 am OK, now this might seem to be a question with a simple answer, but I'm stumped.
On which side of the spout should the hot water tap be located : left or right ? IN the 2 houses we have lived in over the last few years, we have had the hot & cold water taps on both sides of the spout ie in the kitchen hot on left, in the bathroom hot on right - IN THE SAME HOUSE So obviously the plumbers were 'on something' while installing the plumbing. So I want to make sure that this doesn't happen in our new house. Also, I presume that hot & cold water pipes are identified in some way. Will they be obvious when we do our pre-plaster inspection ? Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: Hot & Cold water taps 3Sep 06, 2008 11:05 am All taps in our house are like this, hot = left, cold = right and various bathroom, laundry etc renovations have been done at separate times, all with this configuration without us ever specifying, presume it is standard thing.
In shower, taps are vertically one above other and hot is top, cold underneath, presume that is also standard? Re: Hot & Cold water taps 5Sep 06, 2008 1:54 pm Southies IN the 2 houses we have lived in over the last few years, we have had the hot & cold water taps on both sides of the spout ie in the kitchen hot on left, in the bathroom hot on right - IN THE SAME HOUSE that must be so confusing for you Southies!!! (Or else, you are so used to it now, that you'll be confused in the new house when they're on the right side! ) Re: Hot & Cold water taps 7Sep 28, 2008 2:50 pm My understanding was that any dwelling that has the hot tap on the right is not permitted under the building code in Queensland. I believe it is because most people are right-handed and will instinctively turn on the RHS tap.
Then again, I can't see how the group that is at most risk ie children, would be assisted by this requirement. Perhaps a builder can clarify if my understanding is wrong.
