Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 May 31, 2018 5:57 pm Hi all, as subject says. We had to have an underground system installed for our house during the build which the builder stung us another good couple of thousand ontop of the contract to have done. Was installed in a day and its simply a few poly pipes with drippers so I cant see how they justify the cost, but thats another story. When I asked the sales guy about the system he said the pipes are laid 300-400mm under the ground, the ground wont be damp or anything and you wont even know its there. Half the yard is ok but since moving in from day 1 the other half of the yard has always been basically like a swamp, it was just dirt for awhile so it was always muddy. I got their excavations and drainage guy who installed the system out to inspect the area before I turfed if to give him the opportunity to fix it before I turfed the area if he wanted to. He just assured me once the turf was done it would soak up the excess and it wouldn't be an issue anymore. I had my doubts but I went with his word. Now sure enough 6 weeks after laying turf the ground is still just as soft as ever, I mowed for the first time this afternoon and we've had no rain for weeks. Either the pipe isnt in the ground far enough or hes managed to break it somewhere when backfilling im guessing, cause this area has never been usable. Im aware I can plug a hose and sprinklers into the outlet and disperse the water above ground but thats not what ive paid another $5000 for. I dont want to have sprinklers going off when my son is out playing in the yard and I obviously cant have the yard looking like this everytime I want to mow or children want to play in this area. Im assuming the builder is going to say anything they can to get out fixing it and its "normal", but does anyone have any experience with this and what is the solution? im assuming ripping the area up and putting the poly deeper is about all they can do?
