Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Jun 12, 2018 1:45 pm Hi all, My builder (Metricon) is building a new house for me. And there is an outside concrete path in the front of the front window, as you see, the left near corner is tilted. I asked the site manager why it looks like something wrong, he told me because our eaves do not totally cover the path, so there must be tilted, otherwise, the rainwater might impact the house. any expert can help me take a look if there is something wrong? Our outdoor area is the same so the water doesn't pool next to the house. Re: Concrete path tilted (Metricon build) 3Jun 12, 2018 9:18 pm steve.li.xin Thanks for the photo But it appears that the slab edge requires support & Edge retaining... do you have your site plans with levels? You is responsible for retaining in your contract? You is responsible for retaining in your contract? How can you tell from that photo? Just curious, I am building soon and would like to know what you are referring to. Thanks From the photo I can't see any support/retaining beneath the porch slab the soil appears to have eroded? also It needs to be highlighted and checked, Thanks Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: Concrete path tilted (Metricon build) 6Jun 13, 2018 1:17 am bestspecials You need for the water to run away from the house so it needs to slope away. Does your path slope parallel with your pool house ......possibly towards a drain? or outwards away from your pool house.... or both. Steve, someone will be able to tell you the tolerances for concrete pathway levelness if you are still concerned. These below may be of interest if you want more information about your SS’s explanation. https://www.qbcc.qld.gov.au/sites/defau ... 20Home.pdf Vol 2 NCC 2016 Building Code of Australia - 3.1.2.3 Surface water drainage Surface water must be diverted away from Class 1 buildings as follows: (a) Slab-on-ground — finished ground level adjacent to buildings: the external finished surface surrounding the slab must be drained to move surface water away from the building and graded to give a slope of not less than (i) 25 mm over the first 1 m from the building in low rainfall intensity areas for surfaces that are reasonably impermeable (such as concrete or clay paving); or (ii) 50 mm over the first 1 m from the building in any other case. Gaudi, very appreciate for the link. It looks weird, but at least, I can accept it if it is not a construction problem. I meant pool as in puddle near the house. Our outdoor area is completely covered and has a gentle slope that is barely noticeable. The house plans show a 20mm fall from the wall to the edge of the concrete. It will be tiled once building is finished. The brickwork and mortar lines in Steve’s pic shows the porch ?graded or not level along its length parallel with the house.
