Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Jan 23, 2018 7:38 am Hi I want to build a stud wall in a room that is above our garage. The rest of the house is on pier and beam but this room is above a garage and the floor is suspended above a large cavity space across larger, thicker beams that are closer together. Are there any considerations/restrictions I should know about. My dad mentioned that I should always build stud walls across a joist/beam. Is this true? Is there anything else I should be aware of? Thanks in advance! Re: Building stud wall on suspended beams 2Jan 23, 2018 8:52 pm This is a non-loadbearing wall, right? So the only weight it will be carrying will be the studs weight + plaster, unless you are have plans of attaching something heavy to the wall itself. I believe you could simply nail your studs to the yellow tongue/OSB on one side and your ceiling joists on the other. Experts, please correct me if I am wrong here. I know some may consider it to be an overkill of questions..but that's what Structural engineers ask and what Council Building Departments require before approvals are given. Better safe than Sorry..my2c Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Fair Trading can issue orders to rectify and complete but once the matter goes to NCAT these orders are automatically vacated. You will have to terminate contract and sue… 21 30067 How are you doing Ben? Extremely interested in hearing what you are doing or plan to do! 12 15302 |
