Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Sep 09, 2017 5:11 am Hello! I'm an American from the South who's trying to gain as much information as possible concerning the general feel and look of an Australian bush house by incorporating old and new aesthetics and regulations I've been able to find in my own spare time. This is for a personal comic series. Project's Portfolio: https://www.artstation.com/k4ppy/albums/562678 Bush House #1 Prototype: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/evyeJ Unfortunately I am running into a roadblock where there's certain information I cannot find and I would appreciate any help provided as I am attempting to make this model as accurate and authentic as possible. Below are my general questions specific to bush houses and their walls: 1. What are the common wall exteriors used for current and eco-friendly bush houses? - ( I.e. sheet metal, mud brick, etc. ) 2. What are the depths for these types of exterior walls? - ( I found information for brick walls but not the ones commonly used for bush houses. ) 3. How far are windows set into most bush houses? - ( Is the depth dependent on the wall's exterior type as seen with brick walls? ) window view 1: http://bit.ly/2xS1cL7 window view 2: http://bit.ly/2wPRvhe ( current wall depth: 225.55mm ) Below are some links to photos of my rough cgi model: side view: http://bit.ly/2jcdwDp top interior view: http://bit.ly/2fa6zyB 3/4 view: http://bit.ly/2vLtkij = = = = = Any additional information I may have overlooked is appreciated! Re: General Bush House Walls & Regulations 2Sep 09, 2017 5:29 am Links to photos I've been referencing concerning overall silhouette and potential wall choices.
I have primarily been looking at the wall types that are seen in example 3. But I will choose whichever is most common and best at preventing overheating concerning the house's interior. PS: the links DO work despite not showing as such. I tried using the basic url hyperlink function but it kept exploding in the preview so I've been using bitly. Sorry for the inconvenience. I’ll see if I can find that manual and building something that’s more compliant to the necessary requirements. I would also like to add, as I didn’t clarify this earlier, this house model is supposed to be an abandoned one and in a slightly decrepit possibly uninhabitable state. It is meant to be a squat house for vagrants. But I will be sure to meet the codes required for initial construction! Thank you for your assistance! Re: General Bush House Walls & Regulations 5Sep 10, 2017 4:44 am Thanks to user StructuralBIMGuy for providing me a directory of where to find more helpful information concerning wall thickness! As an update: I am using this manual James Hardie 2015 bush fire manual http://bit.ly/2jf6zlo for exterior and interior wall accuracy along with other aspects I will eventually try and fix. That being said: I have a few questions before I redo aspects of my model as I want to measure twice and cut once so to speak concerning the exterior walls. 1. According to the James Hardie manual: fibre-cement external cladding thickness must be 6mm and that “there are no requirements for external wall surfaces 400 mm or more from the ground or for external wall surfaces 400 mm or more above decks”. So based on their shopping website: an external wall minimum of 109-235mm is a viable choice http://bit.ly/2xcJAN0? 2. I’m looking at the wall thickness options from the James Hardie website and I’m confused as to what some of these elements are beyond the wood labeled “d” and external portion which is the material choice. But what are the other elements I’ve labeled? Labeled sheet: http://bit.ly/2vMwbb. Re: General Bush House Walls & Regulations 6Sep 10, 2017 4:46 am I just came across this website that might help me concerning wall thickness. http://bit.ly/2whDQNW I’ll be sure to utilize this as well. So that’s one aspect of my questions resolved! Re: General Bush House Walls & Regulations 8Sep 10, 2017 5:54 am I’ve made some revisions to the exterior wall and internal wall based on some of the manuals I’ve been using. • Sources Whirlpool: http://bit.ly/2jfRVdF Adxdepot: http://bit.ly/2xdGok2 CSP Architectural: http://bit.ly/2jf6zlo • Revised Pictures • Exterior 3/4 view: http://bit.ly/2eVEPRk • Exterior 3/4 view [closeup]: http://bit.ly/2xdpan5 • Visual Guide for Above Red: interior wall 8mm approx. Blue: stud space 90x45mm. Yellow: exterior fibre-cement 6mm. Purple: dead space that must be deleted. Reminder: this is for an art project some artistic leniency will be taken, but I do want to ensure the core believability of visual structure and depth is there. Re: General Bush House Walls & Regulations 9Sep 11, 2017 5:49 am I've made some updates on the exterior and interior walls of the house. Here are the final results! http://bit.ly/2gWr0Tb Colors show wall layers (i.e. exterior wall = yellow, 90mm stud space = blue, interioer wall =red). Dimensions are the same as before.
