this story pertains to the state of Victoria.
recently had a 2 x 6m deck built as an extension to a small covered patio. the legitimate, registered builder subbed the job out to a carpenter, who did a great job on the deck itself. however the builder also had the chippy install the colorbond roof (skillion) and all guttering; he single-handedly built the whole structure.
come the first rain after having everything stained and painted, we discovered two major roof leaks and the water p*sses down like a curtain between the guttering and fascia on the new roof.
builder said he'll send chippy back to fix roof. I said no, he shouldn't have built it in the first place as it's a roof plumber's job, either send licenced plumber or I'll get one in and send you the invoice. builder tried to convince me it's ok because it's just a small (2 x 4m) area and the carpenter is better at this work than "any so-called roof plumber" - evidently not!
now he has refused to honour the warranty, all because I insist on going about it the legal way. other than reporting him to the VBA and destroying him in the process (I have it in writing from him that he's not used a roof plumber for quite some time) is there another building authority that can compel him to make repairs using an appropriately qualified and licenced tradie?
thank you.
