Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Jul 19, 2016 2:57 pm Hi All
I'm a new home owner and would like to ask for some opinions and help on my house that is starting to get built. Friends and family usually tell me to make time to attend the site to check imperfections and so on, but sadly i don't normally know what to look for. But i attended my site over the weekend as i was told by my supervisor that the bricklaying should be commencing soon. When i arrived to the site, they did start on the brick laying. Viewing from the outside, it looked great/normal. But upon inspection I noticed that the mortar looked messy in between bricks. To me i think i will be asking the supervisor about the quality of work, but would also love to hear member opinions here as well? Being a newby, i'd like to hear it from the experienced home owners and ones that are already pass my phase. "Is this normal?" I have attached some images below Thank you Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: First home owner worried about bricks layed 2Jul 19, 2016 9:22 pm Not sure ours is as gappy as that but it does definitely look messy from the inside. Re: First home owner worried about bricks layed 3Jul 20, 2016 6:31 pm I believe all brickwork will require a good brick clean after its all been laid. Perhaps it will look better then? CARLISLE - Milano 48 Slab pour: 21 Jan 2016 YES - a lot has gone wrong!! Lets hope they fix them all! Currently approaching completion - maybe: July 2016. Re: First home owner worried about bricks layed 4Jul 20, 2016 8:32 pm Mine looked the same, i don't think the inside would matter what it looks like. You will never see it. It will have mortar between the bricks. I was just more worried about the little amount of mortar used in some parts, as i could see holes and gaps right through between some bricks. Like they just only used it on the brick edge/corners and not right through. I did get a response from my SS and he has advised that if the gaps are a bit excessive, he will get the brickie to fill in the gaps. And also mentioned that most likely their certifier will also be checking this. Thanks for sharing the feedback, I am going to have a closer look at ours next time we're on site. No worries mate, please let me know if yours does look like ours and what your plan of action is as well. This is all new to me, but trying to learn as much as i can. Cheers Re: First home owner worried about bricks laid 10Jul 21, 2016 6:57 pm Brickwork like this seems common with volume builders/new homes. You should get the builder/ss to get the Brickie to fill in some of the gaps. It's not so much a structural concern it's more you pay someone to perform a job and it is done sub-standard. And this reflects how builders pay their trades a lower rate and in turn get a job that can reflect that sometimes. Here's a job I was involved in to show you that the brickies filled the gaps on this new home. Also I have hired a private inspector as well I am going through something very similar but my house is almost done . Just to make sure builder is not bullying me , I have hired a inspector as well. I had new concrete laid, extended the alfresco and had the sidewalks concreted too. I noticed the concreter didn't put the expansion foam anywhere, there are expansion… 0 8109 So it looks like we finally have some movement on site! Definitely later than expected, but I'll take any progress at this point. I'll drop by over the weekend to get… 5 27515 |
