Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Jul 17, 2016 2:21 am Hi All, We have requested our builder Rivergum Homes in Adelaide to re-bricks affected areas that were not compliant with AS3700 as per Independent Building Inspector. Last Friday however, we have been advised by Rivergum Homes that all their brickwork is built to industry standard and that no further changes will be done. Based on the photos below, do we have a leg on to pursue this further? Please note one brick pier was re-bricked. Photos of the "new" brick pier is included below. Thanks again for the help. Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: Brick Issues 3Jul 18, 2016 8:50 am the report did not specify the clause. It only says bed joints and perp ends does not comply with regulation - should have nominal size of 10mm with the minimum 7mm and maximum 13mm. Main cause of problem is poor quality of brick supply. Some of the levels also look questionable. What is your private building consultant advising you to do? 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using syphonic drainage. Bricks just like floor and wall tiles aren't perfect due to the process to make them. If the builder blames the product being used as a reason to why it's not a quality job well the brick layer can say the bricks aren't square or straight then these outcomes could likely be a result as of this. And the builder can source different/better bricks or another alternative. To me it's a mix of both, bricks that aren't perfect and questionable workmanship. In Victoria there is a guide for builders and consumers, guide to standards and tolerances 2015. Have a read of that even though you aren't in Vic, it's not a bad thing to have and read over. Usually for minor things like cracking in brickwork, they will advise that a crack between 0-2mm doesn't require rectification or cause for concern. Although if you wanted to pursue something like that then you have right to, but may not get the end result you are wanting.
