Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 May 04, 2016 9:11 am Hi all, There was one outstanding item that was due to be completed post settlement, which was the tiling across the front portico to finish the facade. The builder said it would be tiled across the face and then along the bottom of the brickwork. When the work had been 'finished' the tiling across the bottom of the brickwork is dreadful at best. The brickwork is still exposed and you can see all the adhesive under the tiles. This picture is taken standing directly under in the front door/porch area, so it's something you can see every time you enter/leave the house. I'm wanting to know if this is defective tiling, or simply bad workmanship, which unfortunately seems to be more and more common these days. You cannot tell from the pic how whether the tile is proud of the brick and the metal (lintel), if it is then I would put either dome flashing, wood panel or matching tile to cover the underside. Quickest way I think is to grout. Did you ask your builder or tiler if they could do a mitred return. Other than grouting I do not see what you would expect to do to finish it off. Like I said, not sure from the pic if its defective or poor workmanship. There are solutions...... Good luck. Mark Re: Not happy with finish of tiling 3May 05, 2016 9:21 am I was expecting the bottom to be tiled to cover the bottom of the brickwork completely with the other-side finished with the metal strip and then grouted to cover the gaps. At the very least the gap should be covered/sealed, IMO, so that the adhesive and gap is not visible. Re: Not happy with finish of tiling 4May 09, 2016 3:26 pm Im with you 100% dbun1, that is not properly finished. When you tile something, the purpose is to always completely cover the substrate, and have neat joins, and an overall neat effect. This is as sh0ddy as hell from an aesthetic point of view.. The fact that any tiler would do this shows how non existent pride in ones own work is nowdays amongst tradies. Absolutely pathetic. Id be complaining big time. 4 14400 Hi, did you get any money from insurance? if you did, does it match what you've already paid the builders? 3 9559 Building Standards; Getting It Right!
