Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Mar 21, 2016 1:28 pm Not sure if this is the correct place to post but looking for advice. We are currently building and have noticed there are gaps above our entry and laundry doors and the lintel and bricks above and also 2 long galley Windows one has gap above and the other has a gap at the end and above and the other end has bricks butted up against the frame. Is this normal? Doesn't seem to me as normal! How will they be covered in? And given the galley window has a side gap on one side and not the other it will look silly. A trim will look stupid Bricks cut into odd lengths to make everything fit would look worse Creator of superduperonium, expert at expert things, nobel laureate, can hold my breath for 10 minutes. A trim will look stupid That is a silly idea, what is going to hold your brick in place? It's going to crack and fall apart Re: Gaps in bricks around Windows/doors new build. 9Mar 21, 2016 6:22 pm jai.m Builder will put in same color trims and you won't notice or that was what I've been told Ok but they will be uneven as you can see from the pic one side butts up to brick and the other has big gap. So therefore a trim will make one side of the window larger. Re: Gaps in bricks around Windows/doors new build. 10Mar 21, 2016 7:01 pm I agree, the sides should be more even. My Reno has a similar issue above the sliding doors - we stuffed up the measurements for the doors and I have to put a moulding in. But I'm a DIYer not a builder. How high is the door. Re: Gaps in bricks around Windows/doors new build. 11Mar 21, 2016 7:29 pm Front door? 2110 I think. I think they have ordered wrong too or placed it wrong. Before it was wrapped or anything there was massive gaps between the timber framing and the frame of the window. Sorry to hear you have to put moulding on yours Re: Gaps in bricks around Windows/doors new build. 12Sep 15, 2016 3:30 pm any news? How did it all go? The gap around the window to the frame should be 20mm. A&L make windows to brick opening sizes. You should not need infills.
