Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Mar 05, 2016 10:23 pm Hi All , I am building a home and is near to handover. Floor tiling is not included in build price , so I am getting it done after the handover. Builder already fitted the skirting loose with minimum nails so that we can take it out after handover for the tiling. But today I visited my neighbors new home and noticed that skirting wasn't removed for the tiling. They did the tiling up-to the skirting and applied silicon where tile and skirting meets. Is this an acceptable method in these days? Are there any issues with doing so or any issues that may arise in the future ? Please let me know your suggestions or inputs . I am a bit worried about removing the skirting boards for tiling as the wall paining is already done and may damage it while removing the boards. Thanks in advance Tom Re: Help - Floor tiling and skirtings 2Mar 06, 2016 6:59 am The standard way to do it is tile the floor to within 10mm of the wall ( to allow for movement ) then install the skirting over the top which hides the gap. I can see your neighbour may have issues down the track doing it that way. Tiles can go right ip to scirting No movement or cracking has happened in the 8 years . waffle pod slab The oly thing i will point out is that if you are putting your tiles on sand and cement that will make the scirtings look smaller in size unless you have raised them Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I already have the doors and architraves installed as pictured.
