Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Feb 20, 2016 5:39 pm Are there any standards for how level a room ceiling must be? We are aware of bow requirements (no more than 5mm over 1.8m), but what about levelness? We are building a new home in Melbourne and some of the bedroom ceilings are out of level from one side of the room to the other. Also, if standards do exist, do these standards also apply to a fully attached garage that has been lined with plasterboard? Our garage ceiling is out of level by 25mm over 3m. Re: Ceiling Levelness Standards? 2Feb 20, 2016 8:52 pm A good place to start looking is in the VBA guide to Standards and Tolerances. http://www.vba.vic.gov.au/__data/assets ... s-2015.pdf This is a very recent updated edition but just note that while the Guide is based on the BCA and Australian Standards, it is not legislated and is a guide only. Some mistakes have already been found. 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using syphonic drainage. Cleaner Neater Smarter Cheaper Supa Gutter Pumper. Re: Ceiling Levelness Standards? 5Feb 21, 2016 1:43 pm Thanks to everyone who have taken the time to respond. You can not see it now, but it will be very obvious once we install floor to ceiling fitted wardrobes which we do not plan to install until after we move in. Something we should probably have checked before we signed. If the wardrobes are level at the top then the out of level ceilings will become very obvious. Re: Ceiling Levelness Standards? 6Feb 21, 2016 3:13 pm Is it feasible to have the wardrobes adjusted if you get nowhere with the builder? I guess they would charge a variation maybe. 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using syphonic drainage. Cleaner Neater Smarter Cheaper Supa Gutter Pumper. Re: Ceiling Levelness Standards? 7Feb 21, 2016 5:02 pm I was chatting with my chippy just the other day about how they always have to build to the building rather than to the square. Perpends are also a problem...... Building Standards; Getting It Right! Don't think they are designed for double brick. WA has a particular way of building and unfortunately that's the way a large amount of sills are finished. 3 7101 I believe this is correct. From the picture you can see the power was put in last so the electrician knew where the water was. Really it's a common sense issue more… 4 5190 2 8706 |
