Re: How far can a stud be notched? 4Jan 26, 2016 10:45 pm Thanks for the very quick reply and reference unistudent123 and welcome to the forum. I am a bit surprised that a % isn't quoted given that internal walls can have smaller studs but 20mm max for a 90mm stud seems reasonable. 3in1 Supadiverta. Re: How far can a stud be notched? 5Jan 26, 2016 11:16 pm By Googling AS 1684.2-2010 Part 6.2.1.4 I was able to bring up the Australian Standards for... AS 1684.2—2010 Residential timber-framed construction Part 2. Non-cyclonic areas All 274 pages of it! Thanks again. 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using syphonic drainage. Re: How far can a stud be notched? 6May 01, 2016 10:47 pm While we're on the topic................. I want to run a few 'conduits' in the walls of a new build for future home entertainment wiring. I've 'found' the AS referenced above (thanks unistudent123) but am a bit confused by this...... "Top and bottom plates in internal non-loadbearing and non-bracing walls may be discontinuous up to 60 mm (cut or drilled) to permit installation of services provided that, at the discontinuity, the plates are trimmed or otherwise reinforced either side of the discontinuity to maintain the lateral and longitudinal integrity of the wall." So I can drill out (or even totally remove ??) up to 60mm of the Top Plate, say drill a 60mm hole in the top plate, but what does this mean (or how do I comply) with the part "...... the plates are trimmed or otherwise reinforced either side of the discontinuity to maintain the lateral and longitudinal integrity of the wall." Thanks, P_D. .
