Your installation is correct location but pipe must not be pushed into stormwater so you can see if you are loosing water from faulty relief valve (you would not want to have lost thousands of litres of water for many years unknowingly). Overflow should not discharge on the ground because it could cause wet spot and conditions for Termites and worse, affect foundation material.
