Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Jan 06, 2016 3:01 pm Does anyone know what's going on here please? Black cable disappears into conduit in the ground, blue cable goes into the house. They both end up here but don't actually *connect* to anything. Is one the phone line? Surely they're supposed to do something to make the phone line actually work? We had handover of the house just before Christmas. We paid to get both data and phone points in our house, have just tried to get NBN connected and it's not working. I've tried calling the electrician but no answer or return calls all week (might still be on holidays?) TPG (NBN provider) have no idea what we're talking about. Looks like coax in the conduit ready for hfc or Foxtel, with the cat 5/6 blue data cable only roughed in for future connectivity for phone. No phone line or draw cable visible in the conduit. Is the site pole close to the conduit? Maybe they can chase the cable directly from the site pole or street pit. using Tapatalk Re: Data/Phone line 4Jan 06, 2016 9:53 pm The black cable is your incoming phone line from the street it's not coax. Blue cable will go to the points in the house. Once you organize your phone number and account from your phone provider they will come out and do the connections from the street and connect it all up Re: Data/Phone line 6Jan 13, 2016 8:34 pm Muzza40 The black cable is your incoming phone line from the street it's not coax. Pity Sekisui didn't tell us what we needed to do to get it working. Telstra are arriving Friday to fix it for us so we can get the internet installed. Re: Data/Phone line 7Jan 13, 2016 8:35 pm Crazyk I'd be concerned about that pooling water against the foundation Yeah it's sure not ideal. You should have seen it before we put in drainage. We've got another drain to do then it will all be sorted. Re: Data/Phone line 8Jan 13, 2016 8:37 pm Leksie5000 D know but welcome back, how was handover otherwise Thanks! Being in the house is terrific. Once we've got the internet installed properly I'll be back on to update my page with everything we've been doing to the place. "Noting the 'P' classification we recommend that the footing system be proportioned to minimum Class 'M' requirements.." Thoughts please? Re: Data/Phone line 12Jan 17, 2016 3:37 pm Regardless of soil classification water should not pool against foundations. Put it this way.. Say in 3 yrs your slab developed a crack and you left the landscaping as is. The builder would be free of any warranties because you neglected to follow proper landscaping drainage as per AS & CSIRO recommendations. During the build the builder has a responsibility as mentioned above to maintain site drainage. Re: Data/Phone line 13Jan 17, 2016 3:56 pm Yeah they didn't maintain drainage during the build which was a bit distressing to watch. We're in now and have had keys for 3 weeks. It's our top priority and will be fixed hopefully within a month. There's 64 l/m of wall to build, it's going to take some time Fingers crossed (very tightly) no damage caused within that time period.
