Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Aug 15, 2015 7:41 pm Wondering if anyone can help. Just received our bathroom elevations and the builder has put a transom through a fixed glass internal window, alongside our bath in the ensuite. I don't want it there.... And our builder has a habit of saying no to lots of things so I just want to understand whether this is a requirement to meet code, or what. Anyone know off the top of their heads whether this is required? Have attached images. Appreciate your help! More likely it's about the cost of the glass, with glass below a certain height required to be stronger to resist breaking. With a single piece of glass over that void, it's going to have to be rated to restrain people from falling, but I imagine a thick piece of laminated glass should meet the requirement. Re: Code- internal windows 3Aug 16, 2015 7:35 am So I have managed to fumble through the code, and it seems that if it was an opening capable of being mistaken for a doorway or opening, and if no transom etc, we would need it to have a motif (as well as being toughened glass), but I would argue that an internal window behind a bath on a second storey is not going to be mistaken as an opening... hopefully not! Therefore my interpretation of the code is that we would just need the glass to be toughened... transom definitely not required, and worst case scenario, we would need one of those ugly decals. Anyway that's my interpretation of sections 3.6.4.3, 3.6.4.4 3.6.4.5 and 3.6.4.6!
