Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Oct 19, 2014 7:00 am Hi, I wonder if anyone has experienced the loud and eerie creaking/popping sounds that comes from the wall, ceiling in your high rise apartment. The sound was so audible especially when there's a strong wind. The property is new but I am quite concern on the structural safety. Is it normal to hear these noises?? It just freak me out in the night and I wonder if it's safe to live in. I have a friend staying in another high rise building didn't have such an experience, probably he lives on the 10th floor while mine is on the 30th. Victoria is facing a gust of strong wind now and then. I hope I can find some advices here. Or should my building manager be informed? Thanks! Re: High rise property creaking sounds 2Oct 19, 2014 11:37 pm Hi biba8169, I very much doubt that there is a structural fault of any importance with a multi-storey apartment block, but you never know. I suggest you ask those who live above and to each side of you to see if other people are having the same or a similar problem. Loud noises are not good though. Do you have a balustrade or awning or view screen or similar? These are likely to be prone to more problems I imagine because they have a greater individual labour input... loose bolts, loose dynabolts, loose cover trims or similar. Noises are difficult to describe, just as are odours. Let us know how you go with the problem. Wind forces are quite strong up that high also. I also suggest you tape the noises if possible and tell whoever is in charge of the building maintenance. Good "luck, Leonardo_23 Ain't that the truth! We used to have a tile roof and had it replaced with colorbond and suddenly everything throughout the entire house sounds louder! 4 6682 It will be neat but you won't have much freeboard.
