Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Sep 01, 2014 4:38 pm Hello, due to miscommunication our structural engineer was not given 24 hrs notice prior to the pouring of the slab (council received notice). The engineer now does not want to sign off on the slab. Our builder does not want to take responsibility either. Has anyone been in this situation and can they please advise how we can move forward? Any ideas would be appreciated. Re: Structural Engineer Issue 4Sep 01, 2014 7:43 pm can the concretors sign a stat dec claiming all steel was included and fixed as per the engineers design, this would put the responsibility onto them and maybe the engineer will sign off on that. not sure what the concretor was thinking anyway, pouring the slab without an inspection. Re: Structural Engineer Issue 8Sep 03, 2014 12:43 pm I presume you are talking about a house slab? Your builder subcontracts th concretor, does he not? Did he communicate to the concretor that the pour was not to be done without council / engineer signoff? I cannot see how your builder escapes responsibility in this fiasco? Who are these noddy concretors anyway? They should know the approval process, and make sure of that process prior to the pour. Miscommunication is not the hallmark of a "professional".
