Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could help with a little advice.
I am having a home built by a project builder and have to footings in the plans specified at 400mm thick. When visiting the site today the slab looked a little thin for these measurements so I went back with a tape measure. At most points I measured the bottom of the concrete to the top of the slab height is less than 400mm thick and certainly from the bottom of where the shuttering was to the slap height in most places does not exceed 350mm thick. When I contacted the site supervisor he said that the depth is measured from the mid point in the footing to the top level of the shuttering before the pour and the site inspector would have checked this before signing off on the pre-pour certificate.
I know for a fact that the shuttering was done on a Saturday as I visited late on Friday and it wasn't done then and the concrete was already nearly finished being poured when I arrived on Monday morning.
So after that ramble could anyone please tell me where the measurements are taken from and too
Am I being over paranoid or suspicious, after all if the engineer states that 400mm is what is required and that is what I have paid for that is what I expect to get!
I would like to be able to take things at face value but all to often that seems to be how things go wrong.
I have requested a copy of the inspectors report and will not be willing to wait until handover for it!
