Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Jun 14, 2014 10:09 am Hi all, I had a bedroom converted into a WIR and ensuite and as a result I have lots of rods poking through the wall of the adjacent room. The rods are huge screws used to support timber frames and the builder said its normal for the bolts/rods/screws to pop through because ifs an old house! Is that right or did he just use the wrong lengths? So now in the room he didn't renovate I have plaster pulled from from about 8 places and the rods are currently sitting about 3mm from the surface and sitting right in the middle of the plaster wall. Any advice would be much appreciated. Re: Rods from adjoining room poking through plaster wall! 3Jun 15, 2014 3:01 pm I agree a picture would really help. Can one be uploaded to this site? Re: Rods from adjoining room poking through plaster wall! 5Jun 16, 2014 9:59 am Thanks for the photobucket advice. Here us TE link to the picture http://i1373.photobucket.com/albums/ag3 ... ufrpl5.jpg You can see the rods have pushed through the plasterboard into the room that was not renovated. Re: Rods from adjoining room poking through plaster wall! 6Jun 16, 2014 1:04 pm OK, I can see the pic but I still don't understand what those rods actually do??? Is that how he has secured new timber frames to the existing walls ? And yes, you are right - if he ground 10mm off the length of them they wouldn't have pushed through. Just laziness on his part. Cant see how they would be required, especially in a horizontal fashion as described? Re: Rods from adjoining room poking through plaster wall! 8Jun 16, 2014 2:08 pm It looks like wall has been drilled for dynabolts and gone right through.
