Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 May 23, 2014 1:42 pm I am about to get someone build my external timber deck. I asked a builder about what's the minimum weight load on the timber deck. He told me that the deck is rated 40kg/m2. But a woman can be heavier than that, is this a real Australian standard? Thanks Re: What is the standard Minimum load on external timber dec 2May 23, 2014 3:48 pm From memory, 2.5kN (kilo.Neuton) for domestic internal floor and 4kN for a deck. I.E. a deck must be stronger than a normal domestic internal floor. Others should be able to confirm if my memory is correct. Is that per m2? Sorry I forgot the most high school physics. Re: What is the standard Minimum load on external timber dec 4May 25, 2014 10:28 am Its been a very long time since I went to school however my estimate is 407.8864839999522kg I got this from http://www.convertunits.com/from/kg/to/N Re: What is the standard Minimum load on external timber dec 5Jun 02, 2014 7:16 pm lukele I am about to get someone build my external timber deck. Thanks I would say the builder offered an answer that sounded good , or good enough so he didn't have to explain all the standards and methodology behind it. Possibly a better question might have been , what is the maximum its rated too ? So for a more detailed answer we need more info, But from what i can gather from the standards it would be based upon meters squared area of deck leading to Floor Load Width/s, Roof Load Width/s Material used for cover (tiles , flooring boards) , Height above ground, applied loads of the previous Live loads Dead Loads and wind loads if roof over plus any f-t women. lol. If you add the details i would have a crack at it for ya , but you would need an expert to confirm any info or answers i might as well get some use out of $1000 bucks of standards i purchased. For some reason they replied by reporting the post rather than in here so I am adding it to the conversation. kexkez Homeone support team .................................. Thank you for your reply. Wobbly I can't provide much detail. I just bought the house. The inspector said it would last another 5-10years. But it is 2.6 meter above the ground. I decide to rebuild it thouthrouly. And I want to put some light bamboo table and chairs on it. I also want to put an umberalla on it. I am a bit worry about the umberalla. As it is pretty heave. Thanks Ty Kexkez. To lukele Want to be more helpful but am lost as to what you need now. This post says want to build a deck. last reply says you are going to re build, if so you can always overbuild it , with bigger timbers and support for piece of mind Design from top down to ground , build from ground up Re: What is the standard Minimum load on external timber dec 9Jun 21, 2014 12:24 pm Beetaloo From memory, 2.5kN (kilo.Neuton) for domestic internal floor and 4kN for a deck. I.E. a deck must be stronger than a normal domestic internal floor. Others should be able to confirm if my memory is correct. Normal internal domestic distributed floor load 1.5kPa with max concentrated point load of 1.8kN. Balcony's and decks are 2kPa with max concentrated point load of 1.8kN. From there you go up to various commercial loads which vary significantly depending on the application. Hi, as per the subject. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best value decking oil (Bunning is close to where I live) for a treated pine deck?
