Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Jan 28, 2014 3:54 pm Hey, Built with Weeks and Macklins been living in home for 5 months now. On Saturday the oven went...(euro appliance)... and on the same circuit the heat lamps/fan/lights in bathrooms were all destroyed too. We rang the builder they said ring Euro first to see what they say, they said that the Oven is meant to be connected on an individual circuit, the builder is now going to get someone around to come and have a look. So just wanted to know, is this true? If so, will they need to rectify this and correct all their mistakes? Also we were meant to have 3 phase connected and they forgot, we realised this 2.5 months ago as we were getting solar panels installed and were told our metre was only single phase, this was corrected but I want the builder to pay for the new 3 phase metre, can anyone give me any advice as they are not being very prompt with responding to calls. Due to their mess up the solar panels were connected 2 months later than what they should have been so therefore with a 5kw system we missed out on even more cash as we weren't using our solar panels in that time period despite them being installed. Thanks. Re: Connecting Oven in a separate Circuit 2Jan 28, 2014 6:38 pm Very odd that they put other things on the same circuit as the oven. Ovens are supposed to really be on their own meter, as they are generally a 15amp item, on a 20amp circuit. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. Re: Connecting Oven in a separate Circuit 4Jan 28, 2014 7:03 pm Your other lights should have been on a lighting circuit that's usually a 10amp breaker(although they might also be on a 15amp power circuit too). Sounds like someone was cutting corners big time and spliced in to the circuit for the oven. Normally ovens are hooked up with 4mm cable, rather than the usual 2.5mm power cables. Oh, and I am not a licenced sparky (IANALS). take what I say as only worth less than the paper it is written on. I'm sure there'll be a sparky that really does know what he's talking about, and I reckon I'd be pretty close to the mark. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. You have to look at the total loading on that circuit. I'd imagine heat lamps would pull a few amps but if the oven is supposed to be on its own circuit anyway then the warranty has been voided right then and there. Keep us posted on how you go with this. Stewie Re: Connecting Oven in a separate Circuit 6Jan 29, 2014 9:04 am Thanks guys, the warranty for the oven? Yes that's right. We are still waiting to hear from the Weeks and Macklins electrician to come and have a look. Meanwhile we are having showers without light, fan or heat causing walls to peel most likely! We are opening the windows but still not good enough. On a better note apparently things are happening in regards to a possible credit for the 3 phase metre. Will keep you updated. Re: Connecting Oven in a separate Circuit 7Jan 30, 2014 3:32 pm Just an update. Weeks electrician came to look at it today, turns out the safety switch was faulty, oven still works fine as does heat lamps/fans/lights in bathrooms. The oven is on a separate circuit, just with the same safety switch. Glad it was resolved so easily! Re: Connecting Oven in a separate Circuit 8Jan 30, 2014 4:51 pm That's a bit of luck. I guess they only have two safety switches in your house then. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld.
