Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Dec 25, 2013 4:36 pm Hi everyone, I'm not sure this is the best place to post this question? Hoping someone can shed some light. Our friend is building and have asked me to seek advice from the many knowledgable people on this wonderful website! The laundry tub pipe is in the laundry doorway. The builder has assured them it is fixable to standards without a problem. I guess they just need some reassurance? Will it affect the the integrity of the slab? What about risk of termites? Builder says termite barrier will be adequately fixed? Last but not least.... Blockages? It needs to be moved over aprox 1 metre. Any advice or links if this question has been asked previously is much appreciated. Merry Christmas!! Re: Laundry tub pipe in wrong spot in slab? 2Dec 26, 2013 12:09 am This is a common problem caused by poor direction on the part of the "builders". Easily fixed, according to the "builders" by chasing a trench though the slab and moving the outlet. Get the "builder" to advise re the methodology to be used and get an independent inspector to ride shotgun on them to check it's OK. Shouldn't be a problem but your friend needs to ensure that their "builder" takes full responsibility and accepts full accountability for the problem and any solution. Re: Laundry tub pipe in wrong spot in slab? 3Dec 28, 2013 11:08 pm Thanks for your reply Althom. They are a lot more confident about it all now. Cheers for the advice! Re: Laundry tub pipe in wrong spot in slab? 4Dec 29, 2013 7:10 am I would be asking builder to provide engineering certificate for slab alteration and a certificate of termite re treatment. Homeowners can avoid this type of problem by engaging their own inspector for a pre slab inspection. It does not say much for builder's quality control so watch out for the rest of the build you can find more on http://www.buildingexpert.net.au/new-home-pre-slab.htm and on my blogs Foremost Building Expert in Australia, assisting with building problems/disputes, building stage inspections,pre-contract review advice for peace of mind 200 blogs http://www.buildingexpert.net.au/blog Re: Laundry tub pipe in wrong spot in slab? 5Jan 02, 2014 5:58 pm Thanks, yes they were told up front that certificates would be provided and apparently the builder also advised them to get an independent inspection if they had any concerns, which they are. They feel very much at ease with the builder as he has been upfront and honest from the start, however will be watching the whole build like a hawke. Let's hope the mistakes stop here for them...... 6 4324 Unless the room is for storage then it's non compliant BCA V2 2019 S3 P3.8 You have 2 options 1.
