Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Dec 02, 2013 5:43 pm Hi, We are just trying to finalise our OC and our plans had that we required steps off our alfresco as the fall was too great due to not being allowed to use fill and needing a DEB. Anyway, we are going to extend off the back sometime next year and so concrete steps will be waste of money as they will get covered up so I had mentioned to our certifier that we have a friend who is a fencer and can we fence off the high part instead. I need to send them photo's so they approve before we get the work done but thought I would just check on here as to what the maximum fall allowed without needing a step is? if it's more than 140mm then we can fence up until we reach that point, still allowing access at one end rather than fencing off the entire alfresco. only one end is high and as it moves toward the other end (where we were allowed to use fill), it goes to about 135/140mm off the ground. Any help would be great. photo below to make a bit more sense of it - you can see one end is much higher and it reduces to about 135mm at the other end. Re: maximum fall without needing a step 3Dec 04, 2013 7:35 am Looking at your pic. there should be no need for the fencing as you are allowed 1000mm from the concrete level to ground level without fall protection. There will be a step required as there is an egress point from the dwelling via the landing (concrete area). The distance between my DEBs varies from 4.1m at the narrowest to 8.1m at the widest. 5 27305 Thanks again for this information. It may be good to use these could in the shower recesses. I'm not… 4 4682 |
