I noticed that the hot water was on 50 at the new house today. We dont currently have one of these systems, so its all new to me. What temp should they be on? I noticed that the hot water was on 50 at the new house today. We dont currently have one of these systems, so its all new to me. What temp should they be on? (are you still male ) Let me check again. Yep, still male. Here's something from the Dux website: Code requirements AS 1056.1 With reference to clause 3.2.2 the thermostat for a storage water heater shall be set at not less than 60°C. This clause then explains that a minimum setting of 60°C is specified on the advice of the Department of Health, NSW, that bacteria Legionella pneumophillia do not survive in temperatures above 55°C. AS 3500.4 With reference to Clause 1.10.2, Part B, all new hot water installations, shall deliver not water not exceeding 50°C in residential buildings, at the outlet of all sanitary fixtures used primarily for personal hygiene purposes. The Clause is obviously referring to baths, showers, and hand basins in a bathroom or ensuite. So your storage tank needs to be set to at least 60°C, but the water at your bathroom taps must not be above 50°C. Which makes me wonder - why insulate hot water pipes when you need to drop at least 10°C! One more check ... Yep. That makes sense then because it was the internal temp (the control on the wall) that displayed 50. I'll make a note to check the storage temp when we get in. Ok, you can stop looking now - once a night should be your limit Paula Re: Tempering valve 6May 06, 2008 10:06 pm Had a look at a couple of websites (as Yak Chat says therefore it must be true) and "they" say the ideal setting for stored water is 65° to 70°C although factory preset is approximately 68°C.
Water in hot water tanks should be evenly at 60°C to prevent against the formation of Legionella bacteria. http://www.synergy.net.au/Business_Segm ...
