Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Aug 09, 2013 2:22 pm Hi All, I'm planning to build a small outdoor sauna (2.6x1.6m) and would like to dig 6-8 holes, pour concrete and attach timber frame base with plywood sheets. I don't need to pour concrete throughout the whole floor but not sure if it's acceptable from building standards perspective. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Re: Concrete footings for a small outdoor sauna foundation 2Aug 16, 2013 10:32 am Assuming you are not applying to your local council or seeking the advice of a structural engineer for this it'd be classified as lightweight construction so build it as you would a timber deck. Easy to google pdfs of How-to guides for that including concrete footings. Stewie Re: Concrete footings for a small outdoor sauna foundation 3Aug 19, 2013 5:27 pm Hi Stewie, Thank you for your reply. Yes it's going to be quite light, about 250kg max so I won't be seeking council permission. I'm now thinking may be these foundation blocks would be enough this purpose: http://www.bunnings.com.au/products_pro ... 80248.aspx Thanks, Tommy Re: Concrete footings for a small outdoor sauna foundation 4Aug 20, 2013 7:51 am Just dig them in a bit so you are down to subsoil. If you just placed them on top of your lawn or topsoil the weight would sink them in over time causing your sauna to be out of level ( maybe ). Three bearers going lengthways and then joist on top of those should be all you need for your sub-floor. Stewie Re: Concrete footings for a small outdoor sauna foundation 5Aug 20, 2013 1:22 pm Thanks Stewie I'm also planning to put some crashed stones under the footings. Also, as the structure would weight just around 250kg I think if over time it goes a bit off level I would be able to lift it a bit using leverage and add more stones. What do you think about leveling ground by digging out excess soil or building a small retaining wall and just place treated bearers directly on the ground instead of using any slabs/footings? Would it work and is it up to the standards? Thanks, Tommy. Last year I had a gas leak at my house. 3 days later, I have about 1 sqm of my exposed aggregate paving broken up.
