Hi, I am a chippy in WA and would like to try and find out how to determine if a ridgeboard needs strutting. I would like to think that I am reasonably familiar with AS1684 but I cant find the any formulas to calculate the roof load on the ridge for stutting purposes.
AS 1684 7.2.12.1 States
" Ridgeboards shall be provided to locate and stabalize rafter ends. Opposing pairs of rafters shall not be staggered by more that their own thickness at either side of their ridge junction.
The size of ridgeboards shall be determined from Table 7.6
Junctions of ridgeboard and hip or valley rafters shall be strutted where the hip or valley rafters exceed 5m span, or where underpurlins are supported off hip and valley rafters.
Where a ridgeboard is required to be strutted along it's length, but there are insufficient struuting supports, the ridgeboard shall be designed as a ridge beam for an uncoupled roof, or alternatively provisions shall be made for the full support of the roof loads"
Looking forward to hearing everyones answers.
