Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Feb 24, 2012 9:19 am I'm in the final stages of designing my new house. I just purchased a set of glass sliding doors (4.8m x 2.4m). I need a lintel to go over the opening. The wall height is 2740mm. It's a single storey, corregated iron, trussed roof with a roof load width of 4.5m. There is about a 250mm gap for the lintel after taking into account the top plate and reveal etc. What would be the best option for the lintel? A light steel beam seems like the best choice, but I'd like some other opinions please. Re: Lintel to span 5m over glass sliding doors 2Feb 26, 2012 6:05 am You will be looking at steel only - something around a 180PFC Peter Clarkson - AusDesign Australia www.ausdesign.com.au This information is intended to provide general information only. The 180PFC will fit in much easier than the 250mm LSB I was looking at. I also found this forum link that may help others looking for steel span tables: http://www.*.com/f221/steel-housing-including-steel-beam-span-tables-99800/#post854891 Re: Lintel to span 5m over glass sliding doors 5Mar 09, 2012 11:50 am Even if you get an answer you will still need a 'design certificate' A previous post has a 'steel in housing' link which can be used by anyone competent.
