Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Feb 15, 2012 8:47 am Hi Everyone. Was hoping if some one can shed some light on the below query. Our is a corner lot and is sloping towards the corner (or the right side of the plot). Recently we got someone to do some retaining wall at the back and the right side of the house so that we flatten it with soil. Rear Wall is done correctly but on the right side he has actually used the Fence Posts as the posts/Studs for the Timber Retaining Wall. Would this be correct ? Will this affect the fence? The timber wall is about 2 sleepers high (about 18 inches) and the will be filling the right side by about 6- 8 inches. I have still not made the final payment so would like to get some feedback if this looks correct ? 26/2 - Sales 23/3 - Colours 31/3 - Tender 14/4 - Contract 7/5 - Taps 12/6 - Site start 15/6 - Slab 27/6 - Frame 1/8 - Lockup/Fixing 29/9 - PCI 25/10 - Handover Re: Retaining Walls...Is this correct ? 2Feb 15, 2012 11:01 am I don't think I would be too happy. The posts for the fence may not be adequate for a retaining wall. Seems that since the Fence is fairly new and the fence posts were dug in atleast 600mm (which is the case) then this should be fine for 1-2 sleepers. Also spoke to Council Surveyor who said that this would be fine as long as I have the desired permits...(he just rambled about permits). So I am guessing this should be ok. But still want to know if anyone on H1 has had similar experience ? Thinking of adding star pickets (from bunnings for about $2) between the wall and the fence to add more strength......(got this idea from a colleague who is doing the same). what do you think....will get some pictures tomm.... 26/2 - Sales 23/3 - Colours 31/3 - Tender 14/4 - Contract 7/5 - Taps 12/6 - Site start 15/6 - Slab 27/6 - Frame 1/8 - Lockup/Fixing 29/9 - PCI 25/10 - Handover Re: Retaining Walls...Is this correct ? 6Feb 20, 2012 12:53 pm Agreed Phippsy. I used a hammer years ago and busted the muscles etc in my right elbow, hasn't been any good since.... somtimes I can't lift a 2l coke bottle depending on how I'm trrying to lift it. I can sort of 'reset' the noise by pressing firmly on the studs. This… 10 11758 |
