Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Jan 02, 2012 11:23 pm On our approved house plans - the floor is the same level through from the garage to the other rooms on the same level - media room, hall, bedroom.... I seem to remember some time ago that you had to have the level of the garage floor down slightly ( 50mm??) from the other areas - I think so that if there was a spillage of oil etc in the garage it was contained... and I have a freind who wanted to convert some shed space to living space, and was told that the floor level in the shed would have to go down, or the living areas floor level would have to go up. That was a while ago, and another council area.... I am just concerned that when we get our final they will say we cannot have the floors on one level despite the plans being approved... does anyone have any answers.????? Re: FLOOR LEVELS FOR ROOMS OFF GARAGE 2Jan 03, 2012 8:10 am I like the garage and rest of the house at one level. Nice clean look. However, you will need to prevent water sneaking in under the roller door or any other door. In my case I put a small fall on the garage floor so it's level when you go through the door at the far end, but is about 50 mm lower at the roller door. It can rain as hard as it likes and you're lucky to see more than about 10 mm extending into the garage. (This should also take care of any "oil spill".) Plans are approved so I think you will be fine. Re: FLOOR LEVELS FOR ROOMS OFF GARAGE 4Feb 23, 2012 11:50 am Many designers will adjust the garage floor height to fit with the contour of the site to keep the access height at the roller door as near to ground level as practical as possible. This avoids having a (high) ramp over at the opening or having to build up the driveway to flatten out the access path. I personally prefer to have a break in floor heights especially if the egrees to the house is close to the garage opening.
