Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Jun 27, 2011 1:38 pm Hello, Tried to find a similar topic as I believed somebody must have had the same problem but couldn't find anything similar. Our house (hand over last year August) did/does have a couple of defects/poor workmanship. Both our shower cabins leak water, initially I assumed it simply ran out the door gap, later I noticed that water enters through the grout under the tiles. If you step on them water squizzes out the grouts, apparently tiles are loose. I informed the builder a couple of times in writing soon after we moved in, after it was ignored multiple times (together with other issues) finally the maintenance inspector and later service contractor was sent out (looks like they delay it internally to push all problems to the maintenance crew later even when this problem existed from the beginning and should have fixed already by the building team before). The maintenance inspector confirmed that obviously the “membrane” was not (or not correctly) done, due to this fact water can run under the tiles. Like many new homes we chose bigger tiles than standard as well as a feature strip (these small sort of mosaic tiles) running through the bathroom including the shower cabins. The builder now informed us that these tiles are not available anymore, to fix the problem they would need to patch into the cabin different tiles (in particular no strip or at least also different). I disagreed explaining I paid extra for the feature and tiles throughout the complete bathroom and I want the same again and if they can’t get the tiles they would have to do the complete bathroom (using similar tiles we have now) in order to provide me again something I already paid for (a unique featured bath room and not a patched different looking solution). This was refused and I didn’t hear anything since. Did anybody have a similar situation, don’t I have the right for a fix up to the same I paid for and have now? What could be an acceptable solution for me? Any advice appreciated.
