Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Jun 01, 2011 10:07 pm Hi, Do I have an issue where these roof trusses are located. They don't appear to be over the studs and the roof tiles have been up a week and already a few have been wedged to correct the bows in the joists or top plates(not sure what there called) I don't have pictures of the wedged ones i was running out of light as it was but they are in between the 2 45mm joists or top plates? If this has happened after 7 days of tiles what's likely to happen a year down the track http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uw6PbrT8tUg/T ... hoto+1.JPG http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EkY6F6ouzl8/T ... hoto+2.JPG Funnily enough the rest of the house has studs located directly under the trusses besides this 10 meter span of internal wall? Please advise Cheers Re: Do I have an issue ((Roof trusses do not line up) 2Jun 06, 2011 8:09 am The trusses do not have to land directly over studs if the top plate(s) are designed to carry the load over the span. This is calculated from the roof load area that is supported. If the top plates are not sufficient to carry the load then the stud should be within 1.5 times the thickness of the plates. With the wedging - it sounds like there may be a variation in the slab & as the studs are all cut to the same length wedges at this point or under the bottom plate would level out the top line of the pitching plate (top top plate). If this is the case then the studs should have been recut or wedges put under the bottom plate & suitable grouting put in to give full bearing to the bottom plate. This is all surmising as it is not possible to see from the pics. I would definitely raise the issue with the supervisor.
