Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 May 30, 2011 6:49 pm Hi All Can some please clarfiy the exact standard in the build code of aust or any aust standard that references a door as defective if all sides included top and bottom are not painted. I have an external door that is beging to warp at the bottom due to the edge not being painted. I have found reference in the following guidlines to the building code but it does not indicate the exact item number http://www.buildingcommission.com.au/re ... IDE_07.pdf section 8.06 I'm discussing with the builder tomorrow - bearing in mind the house was completed in august 2007 Thanks Anthony Re: External Door Damage - Not Painted on all sides 2May 31, 2011 1:43 pm Sounds pretty straight forward to me. If they aren't painted they are deemed to be defective and should be repaired/replaced by the builder. External Door Damage - Not Painted on all sides 3May 31, 2011 8:30 pm After my phone call with my builder SPH I now remember the headaches they have caused me during this build. They treat there clients like complete idiots. Even when the evidence is there. Apparently all doors are sealed on the top and bottom with a clear sealer thats why it looks like raw timber. Lack of maintenance is blamed for the blistering / warping of the door even though the face of the door is in great condition considering it's age 4 yrs. If I can prove with a report that the doors do not have this so called clear sealer they will assess the case otherwise tough ****. They seemed quite surprised I would go to they expense of getting a report. I guess they forgot I took them to the builders dispute tribunal and an order issued in my favor. What they couldn't clarify is why would a painter not paint the top and bottom of the door the same colour as the rest of the door, instead switch over to a special clear sealer. What a load of crap. Who would be my best contact to get a report done on these doors??? A painter. It's a matter of principal not the replacement cost of the door. If I can get this evidence I will get them to repaint all me doors in my home. Bunch of tos*** Anthony Re: External Door Damage - Not Painted on all sides 4Jun 01, 2011 10:43 am I'd be questioning their line of clear sealer as it sounds very strange that they would go to the trouble of applying this sealer to only the top and bottom of the doors where paint would be cheaper and quicker as they would have use more tools and wait for the sealer to fry before painting the rest of the door. Don't forget to claim the cost of the report too. I thought this would be a popular question but I haven't been able to find any similar posts. Perhaps I'm wording my searches wrong?
