Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 May 23, 2011 4:06 pm As the title states, should the builder continues with the build or else? the bricky has just finished bricking the ground floor as well as the garage wall, but only 1 part of the side wall (about 2 metre wide) is not overhang, all other part of the house perimeter have overhang by at least 30-50mm, he simply put a layer of bricks underneath sitting on clay mud to support the wall. I had a chat with him this morning, he said " you're going to have a $**t house, the frame has been exposing to weather for way too long without the roof on, the concreter deserves a bullet between the eyes because the slab rebates are just too narrow and substandard, hence overhangs. The garage slab is also smaller than contract spec, that's why I need to overhang the bricks by at least 40 mm to make the garage in the right size, but this would leave a gap between the brick wall and the slab." It's really heart broken to hear that but he so true. see pics below Not sure how the slab get the tick by the surveyor? Should I call the Inspector right now or wait until they finish the brick? Also what kind of remedy would I expect? Any input would be appreciated. I have yet to meet my SS, even though the current SS is the second SS already, I know this when the CSA emailed me about it. I would tell them to stop building further and in the meantime get an independent inspector there asap so you have documentation to take to the builder. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All new built homes look like display homes... until the furniture goes in. Re: 90% of house perimeter brick wall overhang by more than 6May 24, 2011 2:19 pm 30mm definitely exceeds the allowable limit of brickwork overhanging the slab. When it is so widespread I would make sure the builder gets the engineer involved to either ok it as it is, or specify a fix for the problem whatever that may intail. Yes, unless you are in a low intensity rainfall area or the area is protected from rain. Do you have access to NCC Part 2 or can you download it?
