Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Feb 25, 2011 4:29 pm I have decking area which is above ground 1.5m. I am told I need to put privacy screening on oneside so I don't look over the neighbouring property and balustrading the perimeter. Can I check what the building codes are for minimum height requirements for the balustrading. And minimum spacing for gap between wires (I plan to use the stainless steel wires). Also I want to know what the laws are for gaps in privacy screens. I plan to run rows of horizontal slats over that area with treated pine but wanted to have larger gaps at the top which is ~2m high. Will that be a problem? Re: Screening and balustrading building codes 2Feb 27, 2011 8:07 am In my LGA anything higher than 900mm has to have balustrading. Also I would think that it would be courtesy to install screens. These would not just be for privacy but to shield noise from your entertaining area also Re: Screening and balustrading building codes 3Feb 28, 2011 3:16 pm The balustading height is a minimum of 1000. The wire spacing depends upon the size, number of strands & tension The privacy screen min. height is 1700, "with no more than 25% of its area open".
