Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Feb 08, 2011 11:19 pm I will appreciate your advice in relation to this issue. I am currently building with PD and due to the shortage of brickies, the home was plastered before the brick was started. Because the brickwork had not commenced, the front roof was not covered for 9weeks until the brickwork was completed. All the rain we had between October and January went into the master bedroom through the cieling. Prior to this, i had discussed the issue with the supervisor and made it clear that the plaster will need to be replaced given the amount of rain that went into the room and he agreed to this. The brickwork was finally completed and the roof covered in January and by this time, mould has started growing in the cieling of the room and the cornice. PD has refused to replace the entire plaster in the room and said that they are only willing to replace the cieling plaster. They think i am unreasonable with my request but i don't think that the walls are moisture free and there is no evidence that the mould will not continue fgrowing in the wall when i move in. PDs argument is that if mould will grow in the walls, it would have grown already but i disagree because while the mould on the cornice came out about a month after the rains, the mould in the cieling only started showing up ater 2months. I had requested that the plasters be replaced before all the fittings were done and they refused and went ahead to complete, all the fittings and painting before realising that the mould have started growing and now they are relunctant to remove everything in the room and do it all over again. I am about to go to VCAT and then consult my solicitor. i will appreciate your advice on this matter Re: Mould Growing in my new house under construction 2Feb 09, 2011 8:22 am I think you'll win your case. If thereis mould growing in your house and the builder has deviated from normal buildign practice- it's pretty well an open and shut case. Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: Mould Growing in my new house under construction 3Feb 10, 2011 11:16 am Adeproper I will appreciate your advice in relation to this issue. I would be engaging with an independent inspector to have a look at this. As for the unscheduled site visits, most builders are quite… 1 28322 you need to make an application to your local council for this as they are the approval authority for driveways cheers Simeon 1 7094 Yeah my reasoning is just that those house posts are designed for vertical load not lateral. I just didnt want to risk interfering with the existing house… 4 11541 |
