Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Feb 07, 2011 9:24 am Hi all, I have been in my new home for about 18 months. The pump that pumps water from my water tank to my toilets seems to have blown. Is this covered by the guarantee? The builders are hinting to me that this only has the 1 year manufacturers guarantee. The pump is installed outside, and is not covered from the elements. Surely this is not correct and it should be covered from rain etc. Please advise? Also, some small things, like a door lock that has jammed and the entire lock probably needs to be replaced, or downlight transformers that have blown; are these covered? Regards, Daniel Re: 7 Year New Home Builders Guarantee. Is this covered? 2Feb 07, 2011 10:03 am Generally speaking the 7 year warranty only covers things of a structural nature (slab, walls, roof, bearers, joists, etc). most "fittings" and "fixtures" are only covered by your 6 month (or 1 year in some cases) defects period or the manufacturers warranty which on most products is about a year. An example of this is the oven we had installed at our investment. It packed up after 11 months of use and was therefor covered. The manufacturer sent an assesor out to review the problem and had a part sent in to fix it. The assesor told me that I was lucky that I had called within the warranty period or else I would have copped the charge for the parts and labour. In your case with a pump I'd be looking through your handover pack which usually has all the product warranties. If you find one for the pump call the manufacturer and ask how long they warrant a pump installed by a builder. If the pump warranty isn't their just look on the side of the pump for a clue as to who made it. As far as exposure to the elements go, most pumps are fitted on the outside of home and connected to a waterproof GPO hence being exposed to the elements. Some builders will make a housing for the pump but they can function and are deemed safe to operate out in the weather. Hope that helps. Your house roof does not show rusting other than some surface rust on the flashings. In my opinion you dont need to replace or paint the roof other than treat surface rust… 1 10228 Hi All, we are starting to think of building with Masterpiece Builders in Victoria, has anyone had any feedback or experience with them 0 13603 1 7961 |
