Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Dec 03, 2010 7:39 pm Brickwork had been done for over 6 mths, mortar colour different in sections. Have been 'discussing' with DFH for months and they are seemingly trying to get us to wait as they think it might improve in a few mths. They are saying it is due to moisture and want to wait until late Jan to assess.... seems odd to me, the differences in colour have not changed in the last few months, and haven't done so in recent weather changes....any suggestions/ideas/solutions? Re: Difference in mortar colour 4Dec 04, 2010 8:16 am sounds to me like they are hoping you'll forget about it. 6 months is plenty of time for mortar colours to settle down! get onto them. have they discussed what they will do "if" the colours don't settle? Their solution would possibly be North Core/North Kaw?? but I reckon they are going to try and give me weird story to try and convince me it's something else so they dont have to pay to get it fixed. The report you get will also be able to be submitted to the builder. A couple of pics would help provide an answer. If it's a rolled/ironed joint and the variations are in a dark line across the wall about every 3-6 course it will be bar burn. It's from the cement-lime-sand mix being incorrect and the mortar going hard while the bricklayer is rolling the mortar joint. Anytrhing else is usually sand variation.
