Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Oct 26, 2010 3:13 pm We just discovered the wrong coloured Essastone tops have been installed in our house. The builder has said that they are at fault but have asked if we would leave it and chose another compensation. I am not totally against this although I am trying to get my head around changing from a complate white kitchen with coloured splashback to a white and chocolate brown kitchen with a ??? splashback. They are willing to let us choose a different coloured splashback or 'another small upgrade' could be made in compensation. No mention was made of changing the stone back to original- although I know we are entitled to do this. With this option I worry if this would hold the house up- we sooo just want to get in before christmas!!! What would you want, or what do you think is fair? Thanks Built our Granton in 2010 Handover December 3rd- wooohooo! Now the hard work has began.... Re: wrong benchtops- What would you do?? 4Oct 26, 2010 3:22 pm If it were me I would ask for the bench top I had ordered - if this is your dream home then you shouldn't have to settle for something different (unless of course you love the "new" look). I can't imagine that this would hold you up that long, and perhaps they will tell you that just so you accept their error. Get the kitchen you want! Re: wrong benchtops- What would you do?? 5Oct 26, 2010 3:23 pm This can be opportunity to change. Else just enforce the contract. Re: wrong benchtops- What would you do?? 6Oct 26, 2010 3:29 pm Thanks for the replies. We asked for new crystal salt and got sable lux. I just cant decide. I dont hate it- if it had been black or a colour that clashed with the rest of house I would be kicking up a stink but its not that. Its just that its very different to what ive had in my head for the last 9 months!!! I went to the display this arvo that has this combo- including paint and Im still unsure. If I do keep it should I ask for compensation or just leave it- Im really happy with our builder and SS in particular so Im not trying to be nasty. Hubby will want compensation! If you are not clear on what choices you are happy with given this benchtop get them to change it as per contract. Re: wrong benchtops- What would you do?? 8Oct 26, 2010 3:33 pm daniellec - go on this link and download the software than use it to create your colours http://designer3d.com.au/planner/UI/Pages/VPUI.htm Preliminary agreement 23/11 Contract 22/03 Prestart 06/04 - finalised on 30/04 Unconditional approval 10/05 Demolition 05/07 Slab 26/08 Brickwork 13/09-06/10 Roof frame started 07/10 viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32292 Re: wrong benchtops- What would you do?? 9Oct 26, 2010 3:49 pm I have been to that website before we chose the Essastone. Just had another go but found it difficult to picture as they didnt have the colours of our other things. Thanks for the link though. Hmm will have to chat with hubby tonight and maybe go and have another good look at our house before we decide! Anyone else got any ideas? Built our Granton in 2010 Handover December 3rd- wooohooo! Ask them to change to the one you asked for. They just want to make it easier on them by not changing it. Don't oblige just coz it's "easy". Built with New Generation (Summit Homes) We own land!... with a slab on it! Plus a shell of a house with stuff inside ! Re: wrong benchtops- What would you do?? 11Oct 26, 2010 4:33 pm Either way you'll get a bench top.. the question really is, what matters most to you, a different colour top or moving in before x-mas? ...if it's to move in befor x-mas you'll be able to ask for something extra .. there's value in that. Re: wrong benchtops- What would you do?? 12Oct 26, 2010 4:45 pm I'll go for a glass splashback to suit the new benchtop and ask for something extra, e.g. undercabinets lighting, upgrade on taps etc. Don't be shy to ask as they are at fault and they don't make you a favour... We had a benchtop which is what we needed! Went through today and although not what I had picked it looks good- still fits our colour scheme and we are happy. We got an upgraded oven, which I cant say i care one way or the other about- hubby was happy- and we got our hallway tiled which we had asked about but due to cost wasnt going to get done. All on track for xmas. Built our Granton in 2010 Handover December 3rd- wooohooo! Now the hard work has began.... I was interested to see what kind of value they placed on the compensation, but it seems like it was a reasonable deal. Bought in Nov 21 at the height of the market (classic).
