What should be size of the conduits, if it does not effect the strength. Is there any point to be considered for having conduits. Any advice?? Re: electric conduits in WA 3Oct 24, 2010 7:16 am Are these conduits going in external walls during construction for future additions? Are they going to come to a predetermined place in the wall, be capped and be fitted with draw wires? Normally 20mm is enough for either a twin active wire for a switch or a 2.5mm2 two core and earth for a power outlet but 25mm will allow a bit more to be fed into it. As for changes in strength of the walls is it solid brick or "besser block" construction that will be core filled? Re: electric conduits in WA 4Oct 24, 2010 12:48 pm these conduits will be going in INTERNAL walls during construction for future additions. Builder said we can have at any place we want. They will have plaster on top of that. It is a solid brick wall. consutruction in WA. We have them all over on internal walls CC and all is good here, they chase the bricks, place conduit then float and plaster on top, it's all good Re: electric conduits in WA 6Oct 24, 2010 11:16 pm Definately want conduits. If there is a fault later on or the switching of a room needs to be changed to allow for extra lights, fans etc you don't need to destroy your render finish to pull in a few more wires. The conduits are taken into account in the engineering of the structure, so don't stress about it too much. Re: electric conduits in WA 7Oct 25, 2010 8:06 pm This was the problem we had wiht our ceiling fans. We were able to add them to teh same switch areas as our light switches because there was no conduit in the rooms. I wish we'd been told about this during out build as we'd have added conduit for the rooms where fans ( 5) where going. The sparkie who did our place didn't use conduits at all except for the ones we specified as additional items to be added to cost for our future network cabling. He even tried to get us to use one between two back to back rooms even though there was meant to be two about 1 m apart and to not use one in our bedroom. Re: electric conduits in WA 8Dec 10, 2010 5:40 pm They shouldn't affect structural stability, especially as they are usually vertical. If conduits aren't used, they just chase grooves into the walls for wires anyway. Just put them in any place that you may consider using for a TV or other electricals (eg. speakers etc.) in the future. Hi everyone!
