Browse Forums Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1 Oct 20, 2010 4:47 pm Hi, I ahve a question about replacing my main water line. It is presently 30mm galvinised pipe, which has rusted and almost closed. There is no pressure in any of my taps, and the water is undrinkable unless filtered. I hate to think what the water is doing to my hot water system. In Brisbane, can these gal pipes be replaced with PVC, or even poly metric pipes? I want to renovate the bathroom, but need to replace these pipes first so I don't ruin the new bathroom with rusty water. I am confident I can do the job myself, or will it need to be done by a licensed plumber? Thanks for your help. Re: water mains 2Oct 21, 2010 4:52 pm I dont know if this is a WA rule or an Australian Standard but here you have to have a copper pipe for 1200 from your mains and then you can go to the poly pipe. As for doing it yourself I think that most states require a licensed plumber for that kind of work. What you can do though is do all the hardwork yourself eg trenches removal etc and then get the plumber to connect it all together Re: water mains 4Sep 04, 2012 6:58 pm You need to use a plumber. 3in1 Supadiverta.
